Examples of Fraud by State

Illinois

  • Augustus Stacker, Jr of .Belleville, IL, manipulated up to 27 absentee ballots in a municipal election.  He plead guilty and sentenced to 18 months conditional discharge and court costs.
  • Brian McDouglar of Cahokia, IL, was convicted of falsifying or tampering with an absentee ballot and sentenced to two years in prison.
  • Steveland Kidd illegally delivered an absentee ballot to election authorities without authorization, was sentenced to 12 days in St. Clair County Jail and has been barred from certain election activities.

 

Ohio

  • Melowese Richardson, a  Hamilton County poll worker – equivalent to an Illinois election judge — was convicted of voting twice in the 2012 election, as well as voting three times – in 2008, 2011, and 2012 – for her sister who was in a coma.  She was sentenced to five years in prison. 

Florida

  • Gladys Coego was a temporary worker for county elections department whose task was to open envelopes with completed mail in ballots.  She was charged with illegally marking ballots of others, resulting in fraudulent votes being cast.
  • Michael Pawlowski, a  FEMA official, submitted a ballot in Florida even though he lived in Maryland in November 2010, January 2012, and November 2012.

 

Wisconsin

  • Leonard Brown was charged with voting more than once by voting in person in Milwaukee and by absentee ballot in West Milwaukee in 2012 elections and pleaded guilty.

 

  • Chad Gigowski pleaded guilty to voting twice in Greenfield and Milwaukee in 2012.

 

Arkansas

  • Hudson Hallum and Phillip Carter were an Arkansas State Representative and Arkansas City Councilman respectively who pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit election fraud in a 2011 special election by scheming to give way vodka in exchange for votes.

Texas

  • Sonia Leticia Solis pleaded guilty to voting more than once in 2012 primary runoff election
  • Rebecca Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of election fraud by paying for votes with beer, cigarettes, and cash in a 2012 school board race.
  • In this instance, a new election was ordered by 13th Court of Appeals when 30 cases of voter fraud occurred in an election decided by 16 votes in a November 2013 election.
