Philanthropy Department, Reports to Chief Executive Officer, Full-time, Remote with Travel

Role Summary

The Policy Circle seeks an experienced philanthropy professional with a passion for our mission and a laser focus on fundraising to fuel that mission. The role involves working with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of philanthropy that fosters lasting relationships rooted in shared values. The ideal candidate is driven, goal-oriented, and highly relational. A proven track record of securing and sustaining five and six-figure gifts is required. Prefer a candidate that is familiar with the free market/liberty community and its donors. We have built a solid foundation and seek a Director of Philanthropy to grow the Philanthropy team and help scale The Policy Circle’s reach and impact.

Through educational programming, engaging events, and a proprietary, targeted civic leadership program, we are building an army of equipped and effective local leaders who value an open economy, personal agency, and innovation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • In concert with the CEO, create a comprehensive philanthropy strategy that promotes mission achievement and financial growth
  • Effectively steward portfolio of existing major donors and cultivate new potential funders
  • Evaluate existing strategies and pipelines, make recommendations for improvements, and identify new opportunities/pathways to secure $3M in 2024 with 20% growth every year thereafter. 
  • Evaluate, refine, and execute The Policy Circle’s philanthropy plan with yearly and quarterly targets – monitor performance (using existing tools and metrics) and maintain accurate projections/pipeline to share with the Leadership Team
  • Determine optimal roles and resources required to achieve fundraising goals and manage the Philanthropy budget
  • Manage and develop the  Philanthropy team (3-4 members) and other contracted support, including setting quarterly and yearly goals (using EOS model) and conducting weekly L10 meetings with the Philanthropy team
  • Inform and inspire all team members to have a philanthropic mindset and seek out opportunities for cross-collaboration across departments to maximize fundraising and member engagement
  • Identify and secure potential strategic partners/funders depending on initiative, event, or Policy Brief focus
  • Evaluate and optimize existing systems for gift acknowledgment, benefit fulfillment, and donor communications for each level of giving alongside the Philanthropy Coordinator
  • Develop and execute a mid-tier giving strategy to secure and steward gifts from new prospects
  • Develop and execute (alongside team members from programming, leadership, and communications) grassroots giving, member drives, and end-of-year campaigns
  • Develop and execute (alongside team members from events and communications) stewardship and cultivation events, as well as quarterly National Advisory Council virtual meetings
  • Build Summit Sponsor Strategy and assemble/manage the team and resources needed to assist with sponsorship acquisition and fulfillment
  • Utilize and maximize internal systems, especially Salesforce, to ensure Philanthropy team members track donations and maintain complete and accurate files for each donor/gift, including monthly reconciliation with the finance team

Requirements 

  • 5-10 years of major donor fundraising experience and 3+ building and managing a team
  • Demonstrated track record of raising five and six-figure gifts, building pipelines, and prospecting programs
  • Established network and  relationships amongst The Policy Circle ecosystem
  • Adept with technology, especially GSuite, Basecamp (project management), and Salesforce
  • College degree required
  • Experience managing budgets, building forecasts, and creating reports for leadership/board review

  • Independent & Autonomous – must be comfortable with a fully remote work environment that maximizes autonomy and flexibility, requiring discipline, self-motivation, and systematic approaches to prioritize projects and workload.

Hours & Status 

Full-Time Remote Role: high flexibility and autonomy with Friday afternoons off

Salary Range: $145,500 – $175,000 based on experience and fundraising track record   

TPC  benefits package is worth $20k, including medical, dental/vision, life insurance, short-term disability, and a cell phone stipend. We offer a 401k matching program and a generous time off policy with company holidays.

The ideal candidate is agile, efficient, and highly detail-oriented. Daily work will include interacting with existing and potential supporters, partner organizations, and team members. This role has the potential for growth and advancement within our growing organization and will provide ample opportunities to expand your fundraising skillset.

Responsibilities

  • Data Guru: serve as the Philanthropy  team lead on all things Salesforce, including processing & recording gifts, updating and enhancing donor records, building out donor dossiers, and owning donor data gift records and integrity
  • Research & Donor Intelligence: conduct research as needed regarding potential donors, sponsors, and funders through various platforms (including WealthEngine), compile into dossiers, help prioritize prospects, and systematically capture information in CRM
  • Donor Acknowledgement & Communications – manages timely thank-yous and donor communications, including executing and refining donor communication plans and donor publishing processes for donors.
  • Foundation Engagement – ensure grantors get timely, accurate, custom communications, track the proposal and reporting cycles for donors, and manage the grant process to create timely, persuasive, and accurate grant proposals/LOIs/reports. 
  • Foundation Tracking: Conduct research regarding foundation prospects, keep the Grant Calendar up to date, and share tasks/deadlines with the team to ensure timely submissions and reports.  
  • Donor Event Support – provide planning and execution support to Event Teams for donor-facing events and the Leadership Summit. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Seek to deliver exceptional service to all Policy Circle community stakeholders by understanding their needs and pain points to personalize each interaction to build active and enduring relationships
  • Product Knowledge: Develop and cultivate a strong knowledge of The Policy Circle mission, products, programs, and events; the ability to connect the dots between various stakeholders and relevant programs to identify opportunities and suggest value-added solutions
  • Professional Development: Engage in and attend regular team-building meetings; seek out best practices and strive to strengthen your skill set through available resources provided by The Policy Circle and other relevant partners 


Requirements & Preferred Proficiencies

  • Agreement with and enthusiasm for Policy Circle Core Values
  • 2-3 years of professional nonprofit experience is required (volunteer roles do not count)
  • Ability to travel 2-4 times per year 
  • Proficient with Salesforce (SF Certification a definite plus) with a willingness to engage in weekly training
  • Excellent research skills with knowledge of wealth screening tools (e.g., WealthEngine, Foundation Directory, etc.) 
  • Ability to synthesize research and identify areas of opportunity and alignment 
  • Proficiency with Canva is preferable 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Skilled using G Suite applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Calendar) – and willingness to learn new technology required
  • Project management experience required, preferably with knowledge of tools such as Basecamp, Slack, etc.

The Senior Manager of Community Impact is an innovative and savvy expert at building connected communities that lead to high impact and conversion. This individual must possess diverse skills in creating, implementing, and executing strategies while leveraging technology and member platforms to deliver and streamline engagement efforts. This individual must be a master at understanding the behaviors and actions of our community members, creating and executing content strategies for engagement, and moving individuals along a continuum of engagement that leads to impact and investment.

Responsibilities: 

    1. Community Strategy Implementation and Execution:
      • Design and launch a comprehensive community engagement strategy to inspire increased participation and conversion to membership.
      • Collaborate with TPC leadership to define and segment engagement pathways that drive deeper involvement in TPC programs.
      • Shape and enhance the TPC Community brand alongside the Marketing/Communications team to create a seamless and engaging member experience.
      • Continuously analyze engagement metrics to refine strategies and ensure maximum impact.
      • Work cross-functionally to align community initiatives with broader organizational objectives.

         

    2. Community Building and Member Engagement Programs:
      • Manage and cultivate the TPC community to deliver a personalized and connected experience that fosters a strong sense of community/belonging.
      • Develop and implement engaging content strategies for the Community Portal to boost interaction.
      • Oversee the Circle strategy and processes to maintain active participation in Circle conversations and Brief engagements, including the new paid member model.
        1. Onboard, train, and support Circle Leaders to enhance their effectiveness and engagement.
        2. Innovate recruitment strategies for new Circle Leaders within the TPC Community.
        3. Establish feedback loops to gather insights from Circle meetings and conversations.
      • Create exclusive member programs such as events, mentorship opportunities, and special invitations to enhance community engagement.
      • Execute follow-up processes for key TPC Programs to sustain member involvement post-events.
      • Implement ongoing surveys to capture community interests and member feedback.

         

    3. Technology and Platform Management:
      • Lead the management and optimization of the Membership Portal, utilizing all tools to foster community engagement and conversion.
      • Enhance Member Portal features by integrating additional engagement tools, including AI capabilities.
      • Facilitate active participation in Circle Meetings through effective portal management.
      • Optimize data infrastructure to track and understand member engagement levels.
      • Explore and adopt new digital channels to expand community reach.

         

    4. Collaboration and Conversion:
      • Partner with the Philanthropy team to convert engaged members into paid supporters and promote recurring memberships.
        1. Automate renewal processes to boost member retention rates.
      • Work with Marketing/Communications to craft follow-up strategies that drive higher conversion rates post-events.
      • Collaborate with the Leadership and Impact team to gather and share impactful member stories.
      • Ensure a cohesive approach to community engagement and conversion across all departments.
    5. Data Analysis and Reporting:
      • Collect and analyze engagement data to measure community impact and inform strategic adjustments.
      • Maintain robust tracking mechanisms to monitor conversion and retention rates.
      • Generate insightful reports to identify trends and guide decision-making.
      • Leverage data insights to continually optimize community strategies and outcomes.

Requirements & Preferred Proficiencies: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • Proven success in community building/management and engagement strategy, especially within non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale programs and initiatives that drive member engagement.
  • Experience in converting active community members into paid supporters.
  • Strong understanding of content strategy and its impact on community engagement.
  • Expertise in leveraging technology and platforms for community management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
