Will Republicans Enact Speaker Ryan’s Policy Agenda Under Trump Administration?

On Thursday November 10th, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan met with President-Elect Donald Trump in the nation’s capital to “lay the groundwork for the 2017 GOP agenda.” Speaker Ryan characterized the meeting positively, calling it a “fantastic productive meeting about getting to work, rolling up our sleeves and going to work for the American people.”

Although throughout Trump’s campaign the two differed on policy areas such as trade, immigration, Medicare and taxes, both indicated a common goal to move forward, unify the Republican party, and pursue a conservative agenda.

On November 9th, in advance of their meeting in Washington, Ryan remarked in his speech on Trump’s victory:

“Now we have important work to do. Many months ago, Republicans in the House united around a bold, specific agenda for this country and offered a better way forward for America, and it will help us hit the ground running as we work with Donald Trump to do this. We will honor the timeless principles that our country was founded on; liberty, freedom, free enterprise, consent of the governed. And we will apply those principles to the problems of the day.”

Will the policies Speaker Ryan set forth in his agenda “A Better Way” be enacted with new policy initiatives in January after Trump assumes office?
