Tips and Tactics – Make Networking a Breeze

As you prepare for The Policy Circle’s Leadership Summit, taking place on Friday, November 10th in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood, plan to test out some networking tips!

The 2017 Policy Circle Leadership summit will bring together Policy Circle Leaders and Members to embrace their potential, brand their strengths, turn passion into action, and to learn how to effectively facilitate policy discussions. It’s a unique opportunity for Circle Leaders and Members from around the country to connect and be part of a great community of women who want to go beyond the headlines and do something.

NETWORKING is an important way to get plugged into what is happening in your state, add diverse voices in support of your cause, and begin exerting influence in decision-making processes. If you’re going to have a say over the decisions that impact you, you need a diverse network. Here are some networking tips we picked up from a panel at the State Policy Network meetings in San Antonio this year:

Five networking tips:

  • Do pre-event research to understand who will be there and the topics on which they will most likely focus  (See speaker bios here)
  • Set goals, such as trying to meet three people during the event that share your concern for a specific issue.
  • Be a bridge builder – introduce people who have common interests
  • Value everyone you meet, because each of us bring a different perspective and set of experiences
  • Take notes of whom you have met. The key is follow-up; send a quick email to everyone whose card you collect.

Seek out opportunities to build relationships with other leading women. As you prepare for this year’s exciting Leadership Summit in Wrigleyville, plan to attend the pre-event cocktail reception at the Dana Hotel to connect with people in your hotel and then share an uber or lyft to the event the following morning.

The Summit will feature an exciting line-up of speakers. Look into their backgrounds so you can ask questions and gain advice from this diverse group of women leaders.

It’s a movement!

Recommend a Circle Leader. Especially in Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri and Colorado where circles are sprouting.

Start a Circle in your neighborhood. Add value in your community by giving women the facts and the space to strengthen their understanding of the issues.

Invest in The Policy Circle. Together let’s build a network of women who want to assume their civic duties and understand the impact of policy in their lives.

The Policy Circle is a 501(c)3 that provides a fact-based, nonpartisan framework that inspires women living in the same community to connect, learn about and discuss public policies that impact their lives.  Women across the nation are taking a leadership role in public policy dialogue on what human creativity can accomplish in a free market economy.
