Strategic Thinking

  • Speaker: Dina Powell McCormick
  • About: Dina brings a unique perspective to the Summit as Global Head of sustainability and inclusive growth at Goldman Sachs.  Dina will explore how essentials like power and water serve as drivers of economic growth, health and prosperity. Dina served as the US Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategy from 2017 to 2018 and was instrumental in launching  10,000 Women and 10,000 Small Businesses — which successfully provided business education and capital to women and small businesses around the globe
  • Facilitator: Sylvie Legere
  • About: If you want modern society to function, you need power sources capable of generating vast amounts of energy. What are the trade-offs of energy sources? Consumers and businesses pay their gas and electricity bills, what does that bill cover? How does energy get generated and distributed, by whom, who determines the prices? Walk away from this session understanding what factors impact the cost and availability of energy
  • About: The interdependence of water and energy is real.Who makes the decisions?  How does the infrastructure work? The filtered water that comes from our tap, fridges and water bottles is abundant for many, how is it treated? Why should we care about water conservation?  This conversation is a starting point to engage constructively on water quality issues, innovation in water management, and  funding for water infrastructure in communities.
  • Speaker(s): Cathy McMorris Rogers
  • About: Power dictates much of our lives, yet oftentimes we don’t fully understand how it’s regulated and who is in control.  Explore the regulatory landscape and role of state based energy commissions and federal energy commissions. You will learn the roles that these commissions play and how us as citizens can interact and understand the need to change the regulatory landscape.
