Following the recent nomination of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, North Carolina Representative Virginia Foxx was appointed this week to be the new chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee. She is a proponent of school choice and of minimal federal government intervention in education. Foxx has a fascinating personal story, having grown up in abject poverty in Appalachia. Her “personal goal (is) to protect the opportunity for anybody who grew up in similar circumstances to succeed.”
