On January 16, 2020, Indiana celebrated the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment. On January 22, the Indiana Leadership Council of The Policy Circle hosted an event to celebrate the centennial with over 100 women and men at the Indiana Historical Society. Guests enjoyed a networking hour, explored the exhibit, Be Heard: Women’s Voices in Indiana and witnessed the unveiling of a piece of artwork focused on suffrage by artist Walter Knabe commissioned by The Braly Family Foundation.
Most importantly, the council organized a program launching a new policy brief on the suffrage movement in Indiana led by Indiana Humanities with two Indiana professors who focus on women’s history and women in politics. The Women’s Suffrage Policy Brief explores the history, challenges, Indiana suffrage leaders and includes questions and ways to engage in continued efforts for equality today.
Even 100 years later, we have a lot of work to do for women’s equality and enhancing women’s involvement and engagement in public policy. We hope you enjoy the brief and engage in the variety of events and initiatives happening in Indiana this year to celebrate women’s right to vote!
